Before the latest update, people were limited to requesting Google to remove certain personal details, such as national ID numbers, bank account and credit card numbers.

Speaking about the changes in a blog, Google wrote: "The availability of personal contact information online can be jarring.

"It can be used in harmful ways, including for unwanted direct contact or even physical harm.

"And people have given us feedback that they would like the ability to remove this type of information from Search in some cases."

In order to request the removal of content, people should go to the Google website.

Requests could take several days to process.
