Individuals would no longer have to provide a medical certificate or be assessed by experts to change their name or gender

Germany has been accused of “outlawing the truth” as a new proposed Bill is set to allow anyone aged 14 and over to legally change their gender and first name every year.

The new Bill, titled the “Self-Determination Act” was first presented on June 30.

The law would allow transgender adults to change their gender and first name once every year.

While the same rules would also apply for minors aged 14 or over if they get permission from their parents.

Individuals would no longer have to provide a medical certificate or go through an often lengthy and expensive court process in which the person's gender is assessed by two experts and a judge, as is currently required in the "transexual law".

Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said earlier this year: "The current law treats those affected as if they are sick. There is no justification for this."

Mr Buschmann also said he hopes the government will push the Bill through cabinet later this year.

Families minister Lisa Paus previously described the current Transexual Law as "degrading" and said: "We will now finally abolish it and replace it with a modern self-determination law."

But GB News regular Ela Vlaardingerbroek has hit out at the proposed new Bill.

She said in a post on Twitter: "Germany is about to outlaw the truth.

"Under the so called ‘Self-Determination Act’ anyone aged 14 and over will be allowed to legally change their gender & first name once a year, every year.

“Also making it punishable by law to not refer to someone by their preferred pronouns.”
