The extravagant opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has left fans divided, and one French MEP has claimed that the whole spectacle was "woke propaganda."
The Olympic Games kicked off in a unique fashion with a segment that resembled The Last Supper, the biblical scene of Jesus Christ and his apostles sharing a last meal before his crucifixion, featuring drag queens and a singer made up as the Greek god of wine, Dionysus.
Speaking to GB News, French MEP Sarah Knafo admitted that she is "ashamed of her country."
She explained: "I must say that I'm ashamed for my country. What a terrible spectacle we have given to the world.
The Last Supper parody sparked fury
BBC"I don't recognize myself in what was portrayed of my country during this ceremony. Where was the beauty and the pride of our history?
"I would have had a million ideas to give to the show's designer, but too bad they didn't call me.

"In reality, the organizers tried to push a progressive work agenda, as you said. It was not a show. It was propaganda and very boring, bad taste propaganda.
"The ceremony was about how Macron sees France, not about what France really is deeply.
"It was a series of boring clichés about diversity, transgenderism and multiculturalism. Like it was a political show. This is not France."
She added: "What it demonstrates is that these people do not respect our history as French people.

"You can criticise any religion in France. The real problem is the fact that these people will not do this for other religions, and particularly Islam, but they are ready to do everything to destroy and humiliate our Christian heritage.
"They know that with Christians they risk nothing."
The Paris Olympics have since apologised for the controversy, and spokesperson Anne Descamps told a press conference: "Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. [The opening ceremony] tried to celebrate community tolerance.
"We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offence we are really sorry.”

He added: "Christianity has become toothless."
Conservative French MEP Marion Maréchal tweeted: "To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation. #notinmyname."
Other acts, such as the beheading of Marie Antoinette also caused a stir.
