The pair were thought to be drunk during the flight from Tenerife to London Gatwick

Two EasyJet passengers were kicked off a flight by police after drinking "almost a litre" of duty-free vodka.

The pair were thought to be drunk during the flight from Tenerife to London Gatwick before officers boarded the plane and removed them.

Concerns were raised by passengers at the rear of the plane, who claimed the duo were being "rowdy".

After the plane landed at 2am on Wednesday, cheers and applause were heard in a video as the pair were ushered away.

One passenger on the flight claimed that a "litre vodka bottle" which "appeared to be almost empty" rolled out onto the tarmac when emptied by a police officer.

The witness added that the duo were in a "bad way".

An EasyJet spokesperson said: "We can confirm that flight EZS8036 from Tenerife to London Gatwick on Wednesday morning was met by police on arrival due to two passengers behaving disruptively onboard.

"EasyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously and do not tolerate disruptive behaviour onboard.

"The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority."

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: "Officers received a report of concern about a passenger’s behaviour on board a flight in-bound to London Gatwick in the early hours of May 8.

"The passenger was spoken to by officers and was given words of advice, before continuing with her onward journey."

It comes after another couple were thrown off an EasyJet fight last week after they reportedly got into a heated argument with fellow passengers.

EasyJet flight EZY3165 from Glasgow to Hurghada, Egypt was diverted to the Greek city of Heraklion where the pair were removed.

Other customers angry by the layover began cheering before the cabin launched into chants of "cheerio!"
