An easyJet flight en route to London was diverted to Rome after three travellers reportedly suffered from food poisoning, leaving passengers forced to "sleep on the airport floor".
British passengers on board were returning from Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt when the crew informed them they would be making an emergency stop at Fiumicino airport in the Italian capital.
The nearly six-hour flight took off from Egypt at 9:15pm local time last night and was scheduled to arrive into London Luton shortly before 1am.
Sick passengers were starting to recover before the decision to ground the plane was made, a British tourist told GB News.

Crew and fliers were forced to disembark the aircraft, according to the passenger.
The Briton said: "A quick assessment by medics proved that the sick passengers were fit to fly."
However, the crew ran out of hours, and the passengers were forced to disembark and told to find hotels, the passenger said.
The flight was rescheduled to nine hours after the passengers first disembarked.

The British tourist, who was travelling back from a holiday in Egypt, told the People's Channel that there was no availability in the hotel, leaving passengers, including children, sleeping on the airport floor.
The flight was further delayed due to the crew arriving at the airport late, according to the flyer.
The passenger said: "To add insult to injury, the rescheduled flight was delayed by 30 minutes when the crew failed to arrive on time."
GB News understands that all passengers have now landed back in the UK.

Sharm el-Sheikh is an Egyptian city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula.
It is a popular tourist destination for Britons due to its tropical beaches, diving, and vibrant culture.
FCDO advises against all travel to within 20km of the Egypt-Libya border, but travel to Sharm el-Sheikh is marked as green as the city is over 500 miles away.
An easyJet spokesperson told GB News: "Flight EZY2612 from Sharm el Sheikh to Luton yesterday was required to divert to Rome due to a customer requiring urgent medical assistance, which led to the crew being unable to continue operating and the flight was delayed overnight.
"The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and we did all we could to minimise the impact of the diversion.
“We always look to source hotel accommodation and meals where needed and did so for all those who requested it.
"As accommodation in the area was unfortunately limited we also advised any customers who sourced their own that they will be reimbursed.
"Some customers remained in the airport ahead of the new departure time and so we worked with the airport to make them as comfortable as possible and provided refreshment vouchers for all customers.
“While the circumstances were outside of our control, we are very sorry for the inconvenience this will have caused.”
