The customer praised the Heron Foods manager as being the 'embodiment of integrity and community spirit'

A hero shop manager trawled through CCTV footage to help reunite a customer with their bag after it was allegedly stolen.

Surjit Singh Duhre was left devastated after losing his bag while shopping at a Heron Foods store in Doncaster.

The store's manager, Tracey Smith, was quick to step in and help put the situation right.

In a bid to track down the suspected thief, Ms Smith turned her attention to the CCTV recordings captured in the shop.

After trawling through the footage, she successfully identified the person who she believed to be responsible.

The next day, the manager quizzed the man who initially denied the theft.

However, he later returned with the bag, saying it was a mistake, according to the Doncaster Free Press.

The bag was then returned to his rightful owner.

"Tracey is a true community hero," Mr Duhre told the Doncaster Free Press.

"Her honesty, determination, and sheer persistence saved me from devastating loss.

"She worked tirelessly on my behalf and I can’t thank her enough.”

The shopper has since contacted the Heron Foods head office in recognition of Ms Smith's actions, saying she is "the embodiment of integrity and community spirit”.

Meanwhile, a selfless London black cab driver was also recently praised after tracking down the owner of a £100,000 designer bag left in the back of his cab.

Hana Al Hai had left her Hermès handbag in Terry's taxi after he had driven her from Mayfair to Knightsbridge where she was staying.

Terry's detective work led him to a phone number found inside the bag for the members lounge at Dubai Mall, which put him in touch with Ms Al Hai.

The next day, he reunited Ms Al Hai with the luxury item, receiving a cash tip as a thank you - and was even offered a holiday to Dubai.

The grateful passenger went on to praise the cab driver for his "incredible honesty and kindness".
