The US President is visiting Scotland as part of a four-day trip

Supporters of Donald Trump have been pictured waiting for the US President to touch down in Scotland.

The crowds gathered outside Prestwick Airport ahead of Air Force One's arrival.

The US president touched down at Prestwick Airport around 8:30pm after leaving Washington earlier today ahead of his four-day visit.

A convoy of vehicles is waiting for the US president as Air Force One comes to a halt.

The US president is expected to visit his golf resorts at Turnberry on the Ayrshire coast and Menie in Aberdeenshire as well as meeting the UK Prime Minister and the Scottish First Minister.

He will subsequently travel to Aberdeenshire to inaugurate a new coastal links course, whilst also holding meetings with British media executives during his stay.

Trump is due to return to the UK for an official state visit in September.

Keir Starmer will be meeting with Trump and the encounter is being characterised by officials as an opportunity for relationship building rather than major policy announcements, ahead of Trump's formal state visit.

Earlier today Trump told reporters: "We have a lot of things in Scotland.

"I have a lot of love, my mother was born in Scotland.

"And he's a good man, the Scottish leader's a good man. So, I look forward to meeting him."
