Mr Trump said FBI agents raided his Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday, before breaking into his safe.
The former US President’s son said the raid was part of an investigation into whether Mr Trump removed official presidential records from the White House to his Florida resort.
The unprecedented search of a former president's home marked a significant escalation into the investigation.
It is one of several probes Mr Trump is facing from his time in office and in private business.
Since the raid, speculation has mounted over whether the White House was aware of the raid.

And Mr Trump was quick to fan the flames.
Speaking about the incident, he said: “Biden knew all about this, just like he knew all about Hunter's ‘deals’."
His comments referred to Mr Biden’s son Hunter, who has attracted controversy for past business dealings.
Mr Trump added: “A horrible thing that took place at Mar-a-Lago.
“We are no better than a third world country, a banana republic.
“It is a continuation of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax # 2, the no collusion Mueller Report, and more.
“To make matters worse it is all, in my opinion, a coordinated attack with Radical Left Democrat state & local D.A.'s & A.G.'s."
But following Mr Trump's claims on Truth Social, the White House said Mr Biden was not given advance notice of the raid, stressing that the Justice Department conducts investigations independently.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters: "The President was not briefed, was not aware of it.
"No one at the White House was given a heads-up."
