Their arrival comes just days after the council installed concrete blocks along sections on the edge of the park

Travellers have descended upon a Birmingham park despite the council installing concrete blocks to stop caravans parking up there.

A convoy of caravans have been spotted arriving at Swanshurst Park, near to Moseley and Billesley.

Their arrival comes despite Birmingham City Council moving in concrete blocks around parts of the park following previous sightings of travellers there.

Volunteer group, Friends of Swanshurst Park, announced to residents that the concrete barriers had been put in place just four days ago.

"Council has now put concrete blocks in place to further protection of Swanshurst Park," the group said on social media.

Some feared travellers would find a way around the blocks and still gain entrance to the site.

"Glad they are there but think the travellers will move them with chains etc," the woman commented in response.

Today, the group said it had reported the return of travellers at the park and requested video footage of their arrival.

"I am aware that travellers are back on Swanshurst Park and have reported it," a Facebook post read.

"If anyone has any video or photographic evidence showing number plates of them cutting the logs, I would like to have it. They cannot be prosecuted without evidence."

One person submitted footage of the caravans arriving in their numbers, claiming they saw a man "with a chainsaw" before he cut a large log on the ground which was blocking their access to the park "while laughing".

"Annoying to see them back and all the mess that they leave, despite what they say," one social media user wrote.

"Need to have a rethink on the security."

Another person said: "Well that was Birmingham City Council at its finest against another complete waste of money on the concrete blocks as they have still got on there anyway."

The council previously issued a statement on the subject of travellers to say it would take steps to recover its land where "unauthorised encampments encroach upon it".

"Birmingham City Council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it," the Labour-run authority told BirminghamLive.

“The council has useable transit sites and plots for use by the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community – which is in line with Government policy – and details of the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment carried out and updated in 2019 can be found on our website."

Meanwhile, another group of travellers are believed to have broken the locks to gain entrance to a London park as several caravans have pitched up at the site.

Travellers descended on Coldfall Wood in the suburb of Muswell Hill, north London, where houses can fetch multi-millions.

A number of cars and white caravans have been spotted at the 35-acre ancient woodland, as well as several horses.

Locks at the entrance of the site have allegedly been broken, the Daily Mail reported.

"Yes travellers are back, this time with a horse, more horses to follow no doubt. Dog walkers take note," one anonymous dog walker posted to Facebook.
