An Asian police chief has said he will be “seeking an explanation” after missing out on the top job at the National Crime Agency.
Neil Basu, a serving assistant commissioner at the Metropolitan Police said he was “disappointed” not to be chosen for the director-general position.
He reportedly reached the final two for the job before the Home Office told him that he had not been successful and subsequently re-opened the application process.

After not getting the £223,000-a-year role, Mr Basu added that he would not be applying for the role again.
“I am disappointed and will not be applying again. I will be seeking an explanation from the Home Office,” he told The Sunday Times.
Mr Basu had previously suggested that Prime Minister Boris Johnson would not be allowed to join the police force because he described black people as “piccaninnies.”
While he also hit out at Mr Johnson for comparing Muslim women wearing the niqab and “letterboxes”.
Mr Basu also declared the police as institutionally racist.
A Home Office spokesman said: "A fair and open recruitment campaign is under way to make the best possible appointment to this vital role."
