A 27-year-old British boxer has been removed from a flight after he tried to open the plane door and was subsequently tackled by fellow passengers, video footage has revealed.

The man was detained on Friday night ahead of a busy flight from Zadar in Croatia.

The boxer was recorded getting up from his seat and yelling before heading to the front of the plane to demand staff to open the door.

Two passengers sprung into action to restrain the 27-year-old by tackling him to the ground.

The woman who filmed the incident claimed most passengers were returning from Croatia’s Hideout festival.

She also suggested the man was drunk and potentially under the influence of drugs.

The British tourist, who was wearing a white t-shirt and shorts, was later clipped being escorted off the plane and dragged across the airport’s tarmac.

Zadar Police Department confirmed a 27-year-old British man had been arrested and the force had launched an investigation into the incident.

A statement said: “The police officers of the Zadar Police Department have completed the criminal investigation against a 27-year-old citizen of Great Britain on suspicion of having committed the crime of coercion against an official and a misdemeanour from article six of the act on offences against public order and peace.

“During the police’s treatment of him, the 27-year-old suspect offered active resistance all the time, which he continued in the further course of the police’s treatment, that is, during the investigation before the competent court, for which coercion was used against him.

“Due to his distracted state, he was then sent from the court to the hospital and physically attacked police officers in the official vehicle, as well as in the hospital premises, and tried to injure himself.

“As a result of the above, a police officer was injured and received minor physical injuries.”

A spokesperson for Ryanair told The Sun: "This flight from Zadar to London Stansted returned to stand when an individual passenger became disruptive while preparing for take-off.

"The passenger was removed from the aircraft by local police before this flight continued safely to London Stansted.

"This is now a matter for local police.

"We sincerely apologise to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of this passenger’s disruptive behaviour."
