A staggering 12.5 million people could face a payment change due to an approaching bank holiday

State pension payments will soon face a shake up which will see Britons receive their cash on a different date.

The change will come in next month and will see money land into bank accounts a few days before the usual payment date.

Britons will see a slight alteration because the Department for Work & Pensions does not make benefit payments on bank holidays.

State pension recipients were due to receive next month’s package on August 28.

However, due to the summer bank holiday, cash is being sent out on August 25.

Britons have been advised to take note of when the payment will be made to ensure they can plan ahead and avoid falling short or overspending during the cost-of-living crisis.

Anyone who does not receive their payment one working day before the bank holiday has been urged to contact the Department for Work & Pensions directly.

A number of other benefits could be impacted by the summer bank holiday.

The attendance allowance, carer’s allowance, disability living allowance, employment and support allowance and jobseeker’s allowance will all likely be covered.

Britons receiving child benefit payments, income support, pension credit, personal independence payments, universal credit and tax credits could also see money land in their accounts earlier than expected.

A similar change could come into force in December during the festive period.

Any payments which are scheduled for December 25, 26 and 27 will likely be sent out on December 22.

The news comes amid renewed pressure for the Government to scrap income tax on state pension.

More than 11,500 people across the United Kingdom have signed a petition calling on Rishi Sunak to drop the levy.

Despite extra cash helping during the cost-of-living crisis, the 10.1 per cent increase to basic and new state pension payments in April drags more pensioners into paying income tax.
