UK households could make big savings on their energy bills
Households can now get solar panels installed without the huge upfront costs - which could save up to £400 a year on energy bills.
Under the new energy price cap, the typical annual dual-fuel bill paid by direct debit is now £1,568 per year.
Although bills are at their lowest for two years, they remain about £400 higher than they were three years ago.
From October 1, this will rise to £1,717 a year.
Customers of all major suppliers such as British Gas, OVO energy, EDF, and Octopus Energy are urged to consider one switch which could help save on bills as well as increase the value of their home.
Experts have explained a way Britons can upgrade their home which will in turn result in huge savings being made.
Sunsave have revealed homeowners worldwide could save £396 a year on energy bills and add up to £98,000 to the value of their property with solar panels.
Some 70 per cent of UK households would like to install a solar system and yet Government data shows only four per cent actually have, thanks to a complex market and hefty upfront installation costs, research by Sunsave found.
Sunsave, a London-based company on a mission to make solar power accessible to all UK households have now launched Sunsave Plus.
UK households can now pay for solar panels as part of a monthly subscription, similar to a mobile phone contract.
Prior to the Sunsave Plus launch, homeowners seeking solar power would be looking at paying over £10,000 for the average solar energy system, an unachievable sum when half of UK households have less than £5,000 in savings.
However, Sunsave customers will now also benefit from excellent service from the UK’s most awarded energy supplier Octopus Energy, allowing Sunsave users easy access to its market leading export tariffs such as Intelligent Octopus Flux.
Themis Bakas and Freya Nowell, both work as primary school teachers and live in Croydon with their daughter. They are one of the first people to get Sunsave Plus and have had the system installed since January 2024.
Bakas said: “We always wanted to get solar panels - it was in our initial plan for when we bought this house. We were quite keen to get off the grid, and to save on our energy bills.
"But as various things started to become more and more expensive, solar was unfortunately one of the first things that had to drop off our plan because of the upfront cost.
“Then, we learned about the concept of a solar subscription, where there’s no upfront cost and you can pay monthly - it was the ideal solution.
"Without Sunsave Plus, we’d have had no chance of switching to solar. Having peace of mind with the Sunsave Guarantee was crucial for us.
"It’s a huge bonus to know that, should something go wrong with our system over the next 20 years, Sunsave will repair it.”
The average family could save 1.63 tonnes of CO2 and £33 a month or £396 yearly on their energy bills, net of Sunsave Plus payments - providing an instant return on their investment in solar.
The subscription includes fixed monthly payments for the lifetime, protecting homeowners from future energy price rises and allowing them to know exactly what they will pay and budget accordingly.
