Banks and building societies, including Nationwide, are offering cash incentives to loyal customers

Nationwide Building Society customers are preparing to receive a free £100 cash payment from the high street financial institution but some members will not be eligible for the sum.

The lender is awarding loyal customers a cash grab as part of its "Fairer Share" initiative, with customers in line to get a portion of £400million after the building society posted record profits.

For the year ending March 31, 2025, Nationwide Building Society reported a sizable £2.3billion profit following its acquisition of Virgin Money, which was completed in October 2024.

Thanks to the "Fairer Share" scheme, the lender's members are able to benefit from a part of Nationwide's profits but only if they are able to meet certain qualifying criteria.

If someone's account was opened after this particular date, they will not be able to claim the free £100 sum as part of the "Fairer Share" initiative.

Furthermore, customers need to have used their qualifying current account within the first three months of the year.

For savings account customers, Nationwide members need to have at least £100 placed in at least one of the building society's products during any point in March 2025.

Qualifying customers are expected to start getting paid as soon as this month, with the lender crediting the bonus to peoples' accounts between June 18, 2025, and July 4, 2025.

In an update to customers, the building society broke down how people should expect to be paid as part of the loyalty scheme.

Nationwide stated: "We will pay the money into your Nationwide current account by electronic transfer.

"If you hold more than one current account with us, we may pay the money into any of those accounts. We will pay the money into an account in your sole name if you have one and will pay it into a joint account if you do not.

"The payment will appear on your current account statement as Nationwide Fairer Share Payment. We will not make the payment in any other way and if you do not have an open Nationwide current account when we try to make the payment, you will not be eligible to receive it.
