As of 10am this morning, Nationwide said customers can now move money between their Nationwide accounts to another person's Nationwide account.

Nationwide Building Society previously said today: "All payments to and from other building societies and banks are delayed, and you can’t move money between Nationwide accounts at the moment.

"Sorry for any problems this may cause. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as we can."

Payments to and from other building societies and banks are delayed as a result of the problems.

Nationwide said customers do not need to resend money as they are in a queue and will arrive as soon as possible.

Direct Debits and standing orders are not affected.

Customers can still use their cards online and in shops, withdraw cash at ATMs and log into their online banking and mobile banking app.

The building society has added a warning about the problems to its mobile banking app and updated the service status section of its website.

A Nationwide spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, there is an issue impacting Faster Payments going to and from Nationwide accounts.

"Payments are being queued and will be processed when service resumes.

"Customers will not need to send the payment again. Direct Debits and standing orders are working normally and customers can continue to make card payments, transfer money between Nationwide accounts and withdraw cash at ATMs.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and our teams are working hard to fix this as soon as possible.”

Earlier this week, Greggs was hit by payment chaos as the bakery chain was left temporarily unable to facilitate card payments.

The IT glitch meant some stores were forced to close while others could only accept cash payments.

Later that morning, a spokesperson said: "We have now resolved the technical issue that affected tills in some of our shops earlier this morning.

"The majority of shops affected are now able to take card and cash payments again and we expect the issue to be fully resolved shortly. We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to our customers.”
