The PeakSave Sunday scheme has been extended until September 8

British Gas customers could get 50 per cent off their energy bills every Sunday from 11am to 4pm.

There will be a half-price electricity event every Sunday all the way to the Paris 2024 Games this summer.

To take part in the scheme and get electricity half price, applicants need to be a British Gas electricity customer and have a smart meter.

Those eligible will then need to sign up to the PeakSave scheme and wait for British Gas to get in touch to let people know when they’re up and running or the next steps to get involved.

During the five-hour events, between 11am to 4pm, Britons are encouraged to use as much electricity as they need.

British Gas will use the smart meter to monitor customer usage during this time.

After each event, the energy supplier will credit half of the amount spent back to the customer’s account, and the payment will show up as “PeakSave Sunday Credit” on their next bill or online statement.

Those who prepay for their electricity will have their credit automatically added to their meter each month - normally within 10 working days after the month ends.

To register, applicants will need to enter their full name, email address and customer reference number.

Once someone has registered, British Gas will check if they’ve got a smart electricity meter that currently sends them meter readings.

It takes them around seven to 10 days to complete all the checks.

The scheme was first launched in December 2022 and since then British Gas has helped customers save 500,000 customers save a collective £7billion.

British Gas suggested it is worth waiting until the event to put those big appliances to work.

That might mean using the five hours to catch up on the week’s washing or vacuuming.

The PeakSave Sunday events won’t change anything about one’s energy tariff or the prices they pay.

Customers will be charged for the electricity they use during the events at their normal rate.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The extension of the scheme follows the partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB.

Catherine O’Kelly, managing director of British Gas Energy at British Gas, said: “Our customers have spoken, and we’ve listened – they are loving the savings they are making with PeakSave and want to continue contributing to a greener grid.

“As a proud partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB, we are extending the scheme until the end of Paris 2024 so that our customers can enjoy half price electricity whilst cheering on their favorite athletes this summer.”

Eligible customers can get half price electricity during the qualifying periods until the conclusion of Paris 2024 on September 8.
