Bank branch closures are continuing to hit Britain’s high streets in March 2024 with dozens of communities set to lose out on vital in-person banking services.
Lloyds, Barclays and NatWest are among the financial institutions which will be shutting down 56 locations this month.
Research carried out by consumer watchdog Which? found that an estimated 5,791 branches have closed since January 2015.
This is the equivalent of around 54 bank branch closures every month, on average.

Concerns have been raised over the likely impact this trend will have on peoples’ access to in-person banking services and access to cash.
Last month, high street bank bosses defended their decision to shut down branches while speaking to Treasury Committee MPs.
Earlier this year, Sam Richardson, the deputy Editor of Which? Money, called for further regulation of the banking sector to prevent vulnerable communities from being adversely affected by these changes.
He said: "It highlights why we need strong regulator involvement, to ensure that alternatives such as shared banking hubs are more quickly rolled out, and then properly maintained."
