In this exclusive interview for GBN members, Tory MP Brendan Clarke-Smith gives his view on the Rwanda Bill and stopping the boats

Speaking to GB News Community Editor Michael Heaver in Westminster, Bassetlaw MP Brendan Clarke-Smith said: "We've had two pieces of legislation already that have gone through and we haven't been able to send people to Rwanda so far.

"So I think people are understandably really cautious about that.

"A lot of this is in the hands of lawyers and courts. I'm not a lawyer. I don't understand how the legal system works in that sense. There's lots of people who say that, yes, this will work. There are people who say it doesn't. So some are waiting and see what the the star chamber say.

"I think everybody wants it to work, everybody wants us to be able to either send people back or to stop having people dying in the channel and so on.

"I do take the point that it's not the only thing. So I don't view Rwanda as the be all and end all. There's lots of other things going on like the returns with Albania and everything else. But I think symbolically it's quite important for us to get this through."

Brendan Clarke-Smith then concluded by saying: "I suppose we're only really going to know when we get that plane on the runway and when people are on there and are they going to be dragging people off the flights or not."
