Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer had their first head-to-head TV debate of the election campaign last night
Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer had their first TV debate of the election campaign last night where they clashed over tax, healthcare, immigration and the European Convention on Human Rights.
As the debate became heated, both leaders were told to lower their voices at different points of the night.
Sunak repeatedly questioned Starmer over taxes, claiming that the Labour Party would increase taxes by £2,000.
To begin, Starmer did not respond, but then dismissed the figure as a "false readout" from "pretend Labour policies."
The pair also fought over the NHS with Sunak being laughed at by the audience on some occasions.
Sunak said about waiting lists on the NHS: "We are now making progress: waiting lists are coming down."

Starmer countered this exclaiming: "They were 7.2 million, they're now 7.5 million. He says they are coming down and this is the guy who says he's good at maths."
The Prime Minister defended himself stating the NHS waiting times are "coming down from when they were higher," prompting laughter from the audience.
The two party leaders also clashed on immigration with Sunak suggesting he would be willing to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) if flights carrying asylum seekers to Rwanda were halted.
The Labour leader hit back calling Sunak "the most liberal prime minister we've ever had on immigration" and pointed to his failure to stop small boats crossing the Channel.
In the exclusive poll for GB News membership readers, an overwhelming majority (76 per cent) of the 535 voters thought Sunak won the debate, while just six per cent thought Starmer won. 18 per cent said they did not know.
