Lord Hermer has likened calls by politicians to "abandon" the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to the rise of the Nazis in Germany in the 1930s.
Speaking at the defence think-tank Rusi on Thursday, the Attorney General said calls for the UK to quit international agreements echoed similar demands by legal experts in 1930s Germany who rejected international law and human rights in favour of state power.
A number of prominent politicians - including Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick - have called for Britain to leave the ECHR.
They've cited concerns that illegal migrants and foreign criminals are exploiting it to avoid deportation.

In the exclusive poll for GB News membership readers, an overwhelming majority (99 per cent) of the 3,902 voters think Britain should leave the ECHR, while just 1 per cent disagree.
