The right glasses will give you both sight and style. Boots Opticians shares how to pick the perfect pair for you

Despite 48 million of us boasting specs in the UK, new research by Boots Opticians has revealed widespread uncertainty about eyewear choices.

Nearly six in 10 people seek guidance when selecting spectacles, according to a study by the high-street opticians, while 46 per cent of adults struggle to identify which frame shapes or colours complement their appearance.

Meanwhile, more than half worry about making poor selections.

Despite these confidence challenges, spectacles have emerged as significant fashion accessories.

The research indicates that 40 per cent of respondents view glasses as "more important" style elements than footwear or bags.

Yet this fashion importance creates additional pressure, with 52 per cent describing the selection process as intimidating and 39 per cent lacking confidence in their choices.

These findings highlight a disconnect between the recognised style potential of eyewear and consumers' ability to select frames independently.

To address these challenges, designer frames buyer at Boots Opticians, Jake Lawrence-Barber, offered three fundamental guidelines for frame selection.

His primary recommendation involved identifying your facial structure, as specific frame designs better complement particular face shapes and can enhance natural features.

The expert also encouraged shoppers to trust their initial preferences and experiment boldly.

He suggested beginning with frames that immediately attract attention, regardless of whether they appear overly vibrant or dramatic.

He noted that his personal favourites often include surprising choices he initially doubted.

Jake's final piece of advice concerned colour selection based on skin undertones rather than personal preferences.

Those with warm complexions might find beige, gold, and pink shades most flattering, while cool-toned individuals could consider grey, blue, and black options for optimal results.

Television personality Olivia Attwood has collaborated with Boots Opticians to introduce Olivia's Style Picks, a specially selected range of designer eyewear aimed at boosting customer confidence.

The collection features six carefully chosen frames encompassing both prescription glasses and sunglasses from contemporary brands.

Olivia's selection showcases current trends, including metallic wire frames from Gucci, representing "a huge trend for 2025".

The range also incorporates timeless black square lenses from Saint Laurent, and "iconic" cat-eye sunglasses from All Saints.

The partnership addresses the widespread uncertainty surrounding eyewear selection, with the curated collection designed to encourage shoppers to express their personal style and explore different options.

The frames reflect Attwood's reputation for making striking eyewear choices while offering versatile options to suit various tastes.

The collaboration extends beyond product curation to include comprehensive styling support. "Glasses are the ultimate fashion statement and often one of the first things people notice.

I love mixing and matching my frames to enhance different outfits," Olivia Attwood explained.

"That's why I'm so excited to be working with Boots Opticians – to help people find the perfect frames for them, and for people to enjoy wearing glasses as much as I do."

Jake emphasised the retailer's commitment to personalised service: "We know that for many people, choosing glasses can sometimes feel overwhelming, but we can help you to find frames that you look and feel great in.

"Just as we worked with Olivia to recommend eyewear to reflect her unique style, we're here to help you find frames that complement your features and leave you feeling confident in your choice."
