Knowing what and not what to wear on a day-to-day basis can become a bit of a conundrum for some, especially as the latest autumnal trends hit high street stores.
More often than not, investing in good quality items which you genuinely like is key to building a reliable and sustainable wardrobe to last you through the years.
Fashion lover Helen Slater, in fact, has built up her booming following online by sharing her tips and guidance for women over 50 who are looking to create a capsule wardrobe.
“Just because it’s September and you’re seeing autumn clothes everywhere, you do not need a whole new wardrobe,” the fanatic instructed.
Building a flexible, evergreen wardrobe requires 'classic, timeless pieces', the fashion fanatic said

Building a flexible, evergreen wardrobe requires “classic, timeless pieces that you can wear again and again and again”, Ms Slater explained.
She first addressed how suede has taken the high street by storm, as well-known brands hop on the trend and cover their stores in the leather material.
However, these cheaper options often lack long-lasting quality. Helen warned: “If you go out and buy loads and loads of suede pieces, you’re probably just going to get bored of it.
“You’re going to see it everywhere, see it on everyone and probably stop wearing it come next year.”
LATEST STYLE TIPS:
Instead, she urged women to just invest in a single piece, such as a “really lovely suede bag or pair of shoes that you can spray and treat really well so when it rains it’s not going to get destroyed”.
The second trend Ms Slater lambasted was polka dots, which are “absolutely everywhere”, the style lover exclaimed.
“Just invest in a lovely skirt or a pair of shorts. Wear in the summer, maybe wear in the spring.
“Something you are going to use again, but don’t overinvest in loads of polka dots that you’ll just get bored of. They end up in Vinted or maybe in landfill, which is not great,” she explained.
Cropped trench coats, polka dots and suede should not overwhelm your wardrobe, Ms Slater advised

The final victim of Ms Slater’s trend tirade was cropped trench coats, which, according to the TikToker, “don’t serve any kind of purpose” and are purely “trend-driven”.
“They’re not going to keep you dry, they’re not going to keep you warm,” she said incredulously.
“I would invest in a full-length trench coat. A really lovely classic style that you’re going to wear again and again and again.”
But, at the end of the day, Ms Slater admitted that she is partial to suede. “Wear whatever you want - this is just what I’d suggest when trying to start your capsule wardrobe.”
