Hannah Waddingham is a proud South Londoner

Hannah Waddingham is best known for her portrayal of Richmond FC owner Rebecca Welton on the TV series Ted Lasso, which landed her two Emmys.

Her taste for acting developed during her former years in South West London, where she watched her mother perform opera.

According to the Daily Mail, Hannah spent much of her youth in Wandsworth, home to the famous Coliseum where her mother performed.

Lying West of central London, Wandsworth is a largely residential area considered wealthier than the city's average.

Wandsworth is one of the wealthier boroughs in London

Property experts at Burk and Wills said: “Wandsworth Town in south-west London is popular with families and young professionals for its excellent transport links, scenic riverside location, great schools and abundance of green outdoor space.”

Properties in Wandsworth had an overall average price of £904,821 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

“The majority of sales in Wandsworth during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £565,539,” the property website found.

“Terraced properties sold for an average of £1,261,068, with semi-detached properties fetching £1,807,130.

“Overall, sold prices in Wandsworth over the last year were five per cent up on the previous year and eight per cent up on the 2021 peak of £841,627.”

Over the years, Wandsworth has become home to an array of restaurants, boutiques and bars.

It is also the largest inner London borough, with a population of just under 300,000.

Property experts at Eden Harper note: “Close to the River Thames and home to the iconic Battersea Power Station, [...] this former industrial area has undergone a transformation from ‘unpopular’ to an ‘affordably affluent’ as families and young professionals take advantage of its proximity to central London and great transport links.”

The riverside area is nestled between some of the city’s hottest areas, with Putney to its west and Battersea and Clapham to the east.

British comic Joanna Lumley lives a stone’s throw away from the area, in the quieter neighbourhood of Stockwell.

Despite being wedged between the popular neighbourhoods of Brixton, Clapham and Vauxhall, Stockwell often slips under tourists’ radar.

The South London district is often regarded as the “northernmost part” of Brixton, making it the perfect base to enjoy southwest London’s music scene.

Stockwell residents have at their doorstep one of South London’s most revered music venues: Brixton's O2 Academy.

The area is also home to the South London institutions, in the form of the Canton Arms and Fentiman Arms, some of Stockwell’s more revered drinking spots.
