Customers have been urged to stop using the product and return it to a store for a full refund

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued urgent safety alerts over a "serious risk of fire" posed by a common kitchen appliance.

Sold by Wilko and The Range, Britons have been urged to check on their air fryers.

The OPSS said: "The product presents a serious risk of fire as the maximum temperature can exceed the level stated, causing the plastic and metal parts to warp and melt."

As a result, the product has been recalled from end users.

The product is said to be able to exceed 150 degrees, which is the marked limit.

As a result, the plastic and metal parts can "warp" and "melt" which presents a fire hazard. The item consequently does not meet the base requirement for the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

The impacted product in question is the Haden 11L Double Stack Air Fryer sold by Wilko and The Range.

Consumers have been advised to stop using the product and return it to any The Range or Wilko store for a full refund.

GETTY

The warning comes just a day after the OPSS issued another urgent safety warning for children's toys that were said to pose significant risks.

Parents and carers were told to check their homes for the Get Set Play Jumbo Balloon Pumper, sold by The Works, and GRIMM's Wooden Toy Tweezers.

Officials were also advised that children should stop using these products straight away following the recalls.
