Mars has announced a major change to its much-loved chocolate bar.

The famous Mars bars will look different due to new packaging that is being rolled out.

The chocolate will be wrapped in paper instead of plastic.

The move has been made as part of a pilot, trialling more environmentally friendly materials.

The new packaging has been rolled out today in the UK.

The new look Mars bars will be in 500 Tesco stores across Britain.

Nestle, a competitor of Mars has been using paper packaging on some of its chocolates since 2021.

Smarties packaging became paper based in January 2021.

Whereas the majority of Quality Street sweets have been using paper packaging since December 2022.

Only two of the eleven Quality Street sweets do not use paper packaging.

These chocolates are the Orange Crunch and the Green Triangle which use foil wrappers and are also recyclable.

Mars says it's a challenge to find the right paper packaging solution with an "adequate level of barrier properties to protect the chocolate".
