The department store is offering 'premium' perks for specific customers

Marks and Spencer has launched a premium version of its Sparks customer loyalty scheme - but only for certain customers.

Sparks Plus costs £120 a year and offers customers perks such as unlimited next-day delivery and a free hot drink each month.

Only selected Sparks Card holders will be invited to pay the £120 up front charge, while the premium service is trialled.

Those chosen will be able to sign up if they receive an invitation email to "become a Sparks Plus VIP”.

Despite the premium service not being available for everyone, the supermarket says customers will be able to claim more than £200 a year in rewards.

Offers include unlimited deliveries, a free hot drink each month, a monthly £10 voucher, and invites to special store events, gifts and doubled charity donations.

In 2015, the original Sparks scheme launched and initially rewarded shoppers with points each time they spent in store or posted product reviews.

However, the scheme has since simplified and instant wins were introduced, including 30p off drinks when customers purchase items in M&S café.

The supermarket uses every Sparks customer shopping habits to create relevant offers based on what each consumer normally buys.

Some members are also surprised with "little thank yous" from M&S each day, which includes free food.

Those who have won freebies will be awarded through the app which can be scanned at the checkout.

The Sparks winners are randomly selected every day.

Alongside the freebies, one member will also win the free food shop each week.

Once the card is swiped at checkout, one lucky customer will be told that their shopping is completely free.

This winner is again chosen at random so there is no way of knowing which M&S shop will grab the freebie.
