Jillian explained: "Chemical exfoliants such as alpha-hydroxy acids and beta-hydroxy acids dissolve dead skin cells, transforming dull, flaky winter skin into a smooth and radiant complexion.

"AHAs work by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells, while BHAs penetrate deeper into the pores, proving effective for oily and acne-prone skin."

The expert claimed that getting rid of dead skin and dirt can make your face look brighter and even get rid of fine lines and wrinkles.

She continued: "These exfoliants can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting cell turnover and stimulating collagen production, resulting in a more youthful complexion."

There are many at-home exfoliators on the market and Jillian suggested looking for ones with AHAs or BHAs listed among the ingredients.

Use as part of your skin care routine by gently rubbing onto the skin for 30 seconds before rinsing off with warm water.

Stronger exfoliators cannot be used every day so it is worth checking packs to see how often they can be used.

Diet, like skin care, is an important component of achieving a youthful glow at any age.
