Washing hair is essential for removing dirt, oil, and any buildup of products that may have accumulated.
A hairdresser has explained how focusing on one element when washing your hair can lead to "healthy growth".
Jake Nugent spoke exclusively to GB News about his recommendations for thicker and longer hair.
He encouraged people to take care of their scalps, as "a healthy scalp equals hair growth".
Jake advised: "Gentle scalp massages can boost circulation and encourage growth. You can do this in the shower or while applying oil treatments."
A study published in the National Library of Medicine supported the hairdresser's position on scalp massages.
It stated: "Standardised scalp massage resulted in increased hair thickness 24 weeks after initiation of massage... Standardised scalp massage is a way to transmit mechanical stress to human dermal papilla cells in subcutaneous tissue. Hair thickness was shown to increase with a standardised scalp massage."
As well as looking after your scalp, the hair expert recommended "establishing a consistent hair-washing routine that suits your hair type".
He said: "Use a shampoo that addresses your specific needs - whether it's for moisture, shine, or strength - and always follow with a conditioner.
"For additional nourishment, incorporate a deep conditioning hair mask once a week."
It is important not to overwash your hair, as this "can strip natural oils and lead to dryness". The hairdresser advised "avoiding washing your hair every day".
Jake recommended aiming for two to three times a week, depending on the oiliness of your scalp.

Aside from washing your hair, "getting regular trims" is another essential measure to support hair growth.
The hairdresser explained: "Getting a trim every eight weeks, just a little off each time, helps remove split ends and keeps your hair looking and feeling healthy. It also prevents breakage, so your hair can grow longer over time."
He encouraged people not to use "excessive [amount of] heat" when styling, as it "weakens the hair shaft".
Jake said: "Try to air-dry your hair when possible and always use a heat protectant when styling."
