Keeping your conditioner in for a couple of extra minutes could unlock silky smooth tresses

There are a multitude of ways to enhance the silkiness of hair, but the path to ultimate shine may start in the shower.

A content creator has shared how she achieves salon-worthy hair with a regimen that takes no more than two minutes.

The pro tip, according to the TikToker, involves keeping a clip in the shower to tie up hair and let conditioner work its magic on hair.

A caption on the screen read: “Keep a clip in your shower to clip your hair up after applying conditioner to get maximum benefits."

Once the treatment has been left to sit on the scalp for a few minutes, it’s imperative to wash it out thoroughly.

Failing to do so could lead to product build-up and ultimately cause irritation of the scalp due to grimy residue accumulation.

Another widely lauded hack for helping achieve shine after washing hair is to rinse with cold water.

The cold water will make the hair appear smoother and shinier by forcing the cuticles on the surface of hair strands to lay flat.

It should be noted that this effect will only be short-lived if hair is subsequently styled using hot styling tools.

Any benefits from rinsing hair with cold water will quickly be undone by blow-drying or straightening hair, unfortunately.

Hair expert Victoria Pantin previously told GB News that regulating the temperature of your shower can massively enhance the duration of colour treatments.

Hot water is one of the common culprits that compromises hair colour, the expert explained, recommending lukewarm water instead.

She said: “No one wants to be washing their hair in freezing cold water, but equally washing your hair in piping hot water that is lovely for our bodies isn’t necessarily great for our hair and our hair’s colour.”

Adopting a pre-shower routine that includes serums and oils will further enhance silkiness.

The practice - known as hair oiling - is one of the easiest ways to give hair a moisturising boost before using shampoo.

Experts at Cleveland Clinic explained: “Hair oiling is an ancient practice used to strengthen and moisturise hair.

“Many believe that it’s an important step for making sure your strands get a good balance of vitamins.”
