Plant enthusiasts notice their peace lilies thrive when placing them in a vase

Owning indoor plants is an excellent way to bring a touch of nature’s beauty into the home, and peace lilies make an excellent choice thanks to low-maintenance needs.

While the plants typically thrive in soil, one hack suggested they flourish just as well when grown in water.

The simple technique promises to make caring for the plant a straightforward process while promoting new growth.

Peace lilies typically grow gorgeous white flowers and don’t require much in terms of maintenance, but growing them in the soil makes it harder to spot signs of root rot.

“However dainty they may look, they are very simple to grow in the house, provided you meet their basic needs.

“If you have peace lilies growing in your house, then we are putting you onto a foolproof hack that will make your easy-to-handle plant even easier - instead of soil, just use water.”

Indoor gardening expert @greenhousecabinetz shared her success with the water-based approach on TikTok.

The content creator listed the most important things about growing peace lilies in a clear glass vase.

She highlighted the importance of checking roots for signs of rot, explaining: “Overall it’s looking really good and there is some new growth.

“I change the water weekly and fertilise the plant every month. When I change the water I always check up on the roots."

The TikTok creator also emphasised the importance of cleaning the vase for hydroponic peace lilies.

“When I change the water I also wash the vase thoroughly," she explained. "This is to remove bacteria so my plant can live in a healthy environment."

People in the comments confirmed the hacks had worked wonders for them. One person wrote: "I recently put my peace lily in water and she's thriving already."

Choosing a vase with a wide neck is recommended so that all the plant's roots can be accommodated for. Plant owners should also ensure roots are completely submerged in water.

All the soil should equally be removed from the roots before the plant is placed in the recipient.

Experts at the Royal Horticultural Society explained that lighting is equally paramount.

They noted: “Keep peace lilies in bright, indirect light - near a window but not in direct summer sun - to ensure strong growth and flowering.

“Plants will survive in deeper shade but will rarely flower and will grow very slowly.”
