Peace lilies are tropical perennials that last for years and produce multiple bouts of flowers over time.
Fail to meet the plant's needs, however, and it will flounder and wilt.
They are relatively easy to grow but there’s an art to keeping them in good nick over time.
The houseplant hack was revealed in a TikTok clip posted by plant aficionado Channy Gray after it prompted tremendous growth.
She told followers: “One month ago I removed all of my Peace Lily’s roots. I do this because I find it easier to grow my peace lily in water. These soil roots are practically useless.
Peace lilies thrive in the right lighting conditions

“I wash her root area down weekly to remove any old soil roots that are getting mushy or falling off. This is normal and new roots will replace them. Remove the old water and replace it with fresh water.”
As highly adaptable house plants it is not difficult for water lilies to adapt to different environments like water.
Experts at Lawn.com explain that growing water lily in water can make a plant healthier by reducing the risk of root rot and other soil-born diseases.
Once the vase has been refilled with fresh water the gardening enthusiast adds a few nutrients to keep the plant going.
“Look at all this new growth she’s sprouting,” the content creator pointed out while showing off the new shoots emerging from the root system.
Growing a peace lily from water simply involves submerging the plant’s root system in water.

How to fertilise Peace lilies
Experts at Love That Leaf note that Peace lilies are not heavy feeds, but flowering takes a lot of energy.
“If you haven’t been feeding your Peace lily at all, or have had it on a high-nitrogen formula (for foliage), both may prevent your Peace lily from flowering,” they added.
“Fertiliser helps fuel flowering but some fertilisers are made to encourage foliage growth not flowers.
“Shifting to a flower or bloom fertiliser will help encourage flowering. Keep in mind though - no matter what the fertiliser companies might claim - no fertiliser or blooms booster can make your plant flower like magic.”
