Snack fiends can find the sugary treats in store now

Eagle-eyed shoppers at Sainsbury's have spied the latest addition to the shelves and are thrilled with the teatime treats - but they come with an untraditional twist.

Close to Britain's heart, Bourbon and Custard Creams are two of the nation's favourite biscuits, perfect for taking the edge off mid-afternoon.

Now, fans are fawning over one of the latest additions to Sainsbury's stores: Bourbon Twists with a Neapolitan ice cream flavour filling and Custard Cream Twists with a lemon meringue pie flavour filling.

For just 65p per pack, biscuit-lovers can indulge themselves in the quirky treat - although not everybody is convinced by the unique flavours.

The Custard Cream twists with a lemon meringue pie flavour filling received fairly mixed reviews from shoppers.

One said: "These sound nice but they're not. There's virtually no taste to them and the smell is more like toffee or burning caramel."

Meanwhile, another shopper sounded more hopeful, mentioning that they had previously tried the hot cross bun-flavoured equivalents and "weren't a fan". "Lemon meringue sounds much better," they added.

A much more eager sugar fiend said: "I bought a pack yesterday and they are a must-buy! They are so good."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Finally, a sentiment of confusion swirled around the supermarket's biscuit aisle, with one user simply questioning: "How can they be custard creams if they are lemon meringue?"

On the matter of the Bourbon Twists, everyone seemed to sound much more enthusiastic, with one exclaiming: "How good do these sound?"

Another said that they "would love to get these", while another commented that they were "very nice" and added that it tasted mostly like strawberry.

There appeared to be complete consensus that the biscuits were "reasonably priced" and were "so cheap".

This year, UK supermarkets haven't shied away from experimenting with the nation's favourites, with Marks & Spencer reimagining the traditional biscuit on a much larger scale.

Perfect to whip up an ice cream sandwich as the weather warms up, the store's Giant Custard Creams and Giant Bourbon Biscuits have attracted online fans by the novelty treat.

Both giant biscuits can be found in the home baking aisle at M&S Foodhalls up and down the country.
