The FSA added: "Greencore Group is taking the precautionary step of recalling various sandwiches, wraps and salads because of possible contamination with E. coli.

"E.coli has not been detected in the products listed but are being recalled as a precaution."

This comes as an E. coli outbreak that's resulted in at least 37 people being admitted to hospital was reported earlier this week.

Supermarkets have shared statements following the urgent recalls.

Aldi states: "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling a number of sandwiches and wraps from UK supermarkets, including Aldi Eat & Go Chicken Fajita Triple Wraps due to the possible presence of E. coli. No E. coli has been found in this product.

"We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."

Asda added: "Asda are taking the precautionary step of recalling various sandwiches and wraps because of possible contamination with E. coli. No E. coli has been found in the products."

Morrisons stated: "Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don't need a receipt. "No other products are affected by this issue. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety."

The FSA added advice for anyone who has the affected items. It said: "If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."
