Around 20 million Tesco Clubcard customers could benefit from the new deal

Drivers could benefit from major changes to the Tesco Clubcard service with a new deal helping people get greater benefits from their spending on petrol and diesel.

The major supermarket has announced that motorists and shoppers can collect double Clubcard points when they use their cards until February 25.

All Tesco Clubcard members will receive double points when they scan or tap their Clubcard when filling up at the petrol station, shopping in-store or online.

At Tesco filling stations, drivers can collect one point for every two litres of fuel they buy at the pumps.

If drivers use Tesco Bank, the number of points they collect will also depend on whether they use their Tesco Bank card to collect points for fuel, to pay for fuel, or both.

Rules are slightly different for Esso petrol stations with a Tesco Express, with drivers collecting one point for every £3 they spend on fuel.

Over 20 million Tesco Clubcard members are expected to benefit, with 10 billion Clubcard points expected to be collected across the event.

Drivers are being warned that the deal does not include Esso Fuel, Halfords Motoring Club, Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile.

Emma Botton, Tesco’s group customer director, said motorists would be able to benefit from more points when visiting the petrol station.

She added: “Many of us could do with a little boost in January so we are delighted to bring over 20 million Clubcard members the added joy of double points for the next seven weeks.

“It’s the best value at Tesco with some extra on top! Whether you want to save up your Clubcard points to use towards a special moment like a holiday or simply for money off your shopping or fuel, it’s our extra thank you to Tesco Clubcard members for shopping with us.”

The latest data from RAC Fuel Watch shows that petrol and diesel prices are expected to fall further after dropping to the lowest cost since February 2022.

The average price of unleaded petrol is now 140.13p per litre, while diesel drivers are still being hit by more expensive prices, with costs at 148.22p.

Major supermarkets do offer cheaper prices for motorists, with Britons saving between two and four pence on average.

Tim Rodie, driving expert at Motorpoint, urged Britons to make sure they are benefitting from cashback and loyalty schemes when at the pumps.

He added: “While it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when looking for ways to cut driving costs, cashback and loyalty schemes are a great way to help ensure you aren’t spending more than you need to on car-related expenses.

“Supermarkets often offer discounts on insurance and fuel vouchers to customers that are part of their loyalty scheme – it's worth keeping an eye out as this could offer some savings for motorists.”

A number of supermarkets and major retailers run loyalty schemes to help motorists save on their fuel costs by giving them points for every litre of petrol or diesel they buy.
