Polestar has unveiled its latest electric car model, the Polestar 5, with a number of unique differences to set itself apart from the rest of the EV field.

The Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer has unveiled the new Polestar 5, which will usher in a new design language, as well as a focus on technology and sustainability.

The Polestar 5 is based on the Precept concept unveiled in 2020, with aviation as a key inspiration for the model, making it one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the market.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller described the 5 as a "guiding star" for the industry, as well as being the "perfect Polestar flagship".

However, the Polestar 5 has a few design differences from all other vehicles on the market, following on from the success of its former flagship, the Polestar 4.

The impressive electric vehicle does not come with a standard glass rear window, with this being replaced by a high-definition camera that can be seen on the rear-view mirror above the driver.

Polestar said this improves the amount of space in the boot of the vehicle. Drivers can also use a tab on the underside of the rearview mirror to toggle between a live view behind the vehicle or a view of the passengers.

Design changes have also been made to the battery, with Polestar introducing a "cut out" to extend the amount of foot space, allowing for a "more natural" seating position.

This is aided by the removal of the glovebox. Polestar said this would allow the "signature minimalist dashboard" design to flow unbroken.

The traditional part is replaced with a lockable, deeper central armrest. Drivers will be able to set a PIN code to prevent any unauthorised people from using it.

Motorists can select from the Polestar 5 Dual Motor launch edition, which comes at a hefty price point of £89,500, or £104,900 for the Performance launch edition.

The impressive Performance model has 0-60mph acceleration of just 3.1 seconds, 871bhp and torque of 1,015Nm.

Both models come with staggering battery ranges to justify the price, with a 416-mile range for the Dual Motor and 351 miles for the Performance model.

Mr Lohscheller said: "Polestar 5 is bringing the future to our present. Our vision for Polestar's design, technology, and sustainability direction is no longer a dream but a reality our customers can buy.

"With its pure Scandinavian design inside and out, unique platform, powerful motors, sophisticated chassis, cutting-edge technology, and consciously sustainable materials, the Polestar 5 is a guiding star for the industry and the perfect Polestar flagship."

The Polestar 5 also comes equipped with features that are becoming more popular in electric vehicles, including a four-zone climate system, seat heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

Drivers will also see a Polestar-specific Android Automotive system, a high-performance, 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkes audio system and Active Road Noise Cancellation.

Nahum Escobedo, head of exterior design at Polestar, said it was a "dream" to work on the original Precept model, adding that it was "even more satisfying" to see it realised as a production model.

"I'm proud of everyone who worked so tirelessly to ensure our vision remained absolutely true to the concept. I can't wait to see customers have as much fun with this car as we had creating it," Escobedo added.

Drivers are now able to order the Polestar 5, with the Swedish manufacturer launching in 23 of its 28 active global markets.
