Weight loss drugs like Mounjaro, Wegovy and Semglutide have been hailed as game-changers in the diet industry - but what's the real cost?
Patients using weight loss jabs are experiencing side effects that go beyond those documented in clinical trials and product information leaflets, according to observations from Dr Rupa Parmar.
These unexpected effects include hair loss, psychological changes and muscle mass reduction.
Dr Parmar, from the private GP service Midland Health, told GB News that these issues are arising in practice despite their absence from official documentation.

These undocumented effects are affecting patients' physical health and quality of life in ways that weren't anticipated when the medications were initially approved for use.
Hair loss has emerged as one of the most surprising side effects, despite not appearing in standard documentation.
"Some patients have reported experiencing hair loss as an unexpected side effect of weight loss jabs. While hair loss isn't widely documented in the product leaflets or clinical trials, it's something that has definitely come up in practice," Dr Parmar explained.
She suggests nutritional deficiencies may be responsible. "The exact cause isn't completely understood yet. However, it may be in part due to the reduced appetite associated with these jabs."
This reduced food intake can lead to insufficient vitamin and mineral consumption. "Some patients may not get enough essential vitamins and minerals that are crucial for hair health. Deficiencies in things like biotin, zinc, and iron can lead to thinning hair or even hair loss."
The medications are also affecting patients' mental well-being in subtle but significant ways.
"Although fatigue is a common side effect, something that usually flies under the radar is the lack of motivation that can come with it," Dr Parmar noted.
She has observed concerning psychological changes in her patients. "Some patients tell me they just don't enjoy the things they used to, or they feel like they care less about activities that once brought them joy or were important. It's subtle but can really impact your quality of life."
Dr Parmar emphasised the importance of addressing these mental health aspects. "That's why I always encourage people to talk about their feelings, whether it's with friends, family, or a therapist. It's crucial to address the mental side of things, not just the physical."

Beyond psychological effects, the medications pose risks to physical composition that extend across age groups.
"One of the lesser-discussed but important side effects of rapid weight loss is the risk of losing muscle mass, and it doesn't just affect older people, it can also affect younger people if they lose weight too quickly," Dr Parmar warned.
She explained the broader implications: "Weight loss jobs can affect your energy levels, stamina, and even your resting metabolic rate, making it harder to maintain weight loss in the long term."
To counter this, Dr Parmar recommends specific nutritional and exercise strategies. "It's important to make sure you get at least 1.0 to 1.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Doing strength and resistance training 2-3 times a week can also help you keep your muscles strong."
