A slimmer demonstrated the fast-acting benefits of the abdominal workouts in a two-week challenge

What to strengthen your core? A fitness enthusiast has demonstrated what is possible to achieve within just two weeks.

Julie Kay documented her fitness challenge on YouTube, shedding 6.5lb through a daily routine of 100 repetitions on both ab and squat machines.

After 14 days, she revealed both the physical results and unexpected benefits of her intensive exercise regimen.

"Every day for two weeks, I'm going to do 100 reps on my ab machine and 100 reps on my squat machine, and we're going to see if I can flatten this tummy," Julie announced at the start of her challenge.

Her commitment to the demanding routine would prove worthwhile, though not without its difficulties.

The daily commitment proved challenging for Julie, who openly discussed her struggles throughout the fortnight.

"I haven't had great motivation, I wake up super sore every day," she admitted in her video documentation.

Despite the physical discomfort, Julie persevered with her routine, alternating between morning and evening sessions.

She discovered that timing made a difference to her overall day: "I feel like the days that I did it in the morning, the workout motivated me in other ways throughout the day."

The visible results helped sustain her determination. "Once I saw that I was looking better and that the number on the scale was going down a little bit, it definitely motivated me to keep going," Julie explained.

An unexpected benefit emerged from Julie's exercise regime: changes to her eating habits. "I feel like it's subconsciously helped me a little bit with less sweet treats.

"Trust me, I haven't changed my diet that much, I love my sweet treats, but I'm eating a little bit less."

The physical activity appeared to create a ripple effect on her dietary choices.

"I think I was thinking more about my eating habits throughout the day," Julie noted, suggesting the morning workouts particularly influenced her food decisions.

This combination of consistent exercise and subtle dietary adjustments contributed to her 6.5-pound weight loss over the two-week period.

While Julie's challenge yielded positive results, fitness experts caution against expecting targeted fat loss from specific exercises.

Health professionals at Harvard Health maintain that "spot exercising abdominal muscles won't get rid of fat," however.

The fundamental principle remains unchanged. The only way to do that is to expend more calories than you take in. This scientific reality applies regardless of which body part one targets through exercise.

While working abdominal muscles has value, contemporary fitness wisdom favours strengthening a variety of trunk muscles, collectively known as the core, rather than focusing solely on isolated muscle groups for fat reduction.
