Socialite and blogger Lizzie Cundy has claimed that people need to "watch what they put in their mouth" as it has been reported that 10 million people are now feared to be hooked on junk food despite knowing it causes serious harm.

Food is now the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. Globally, 40 per cent of adults and one in five children are overweight.

Speaking in a heated debate on GB News Cundy argues that those who are obese should be paying for their healthcare rather than spending NHS money.

She said: "We have an obesity epidemic, it is out of control and something needs to be done. If you are not going to be responsible for what you are putting in your mouth, I'm afraid there will be consequences.

She added that the fast food chains "should be held responsible" and outlined that she feels that fast food should come with a warning like cigarettes do.

GB News host Tom Harwood said: "Hang on a moment, if I smoke a cigarette I know that is bad for me but if I eat a burger and it is in moderation, then surely that is okay?"

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Cundy said: "I'm afraid burgers, you'll lower your life expectancy. They have bad fats and hormones pumped in. Your body thrives on food.

"If you're putting junk into your body, I'm afraid you're going to have the aftereffects and it's a knock-on effect to diabetes, heart disease and many other problems, which is very frightening."

However actor and body-positive influencer George Keywood: "I don't know why I should have to cover the cost.

"I pay 30-50 thousand in income tax a year, when you look at how many people are drunk on a Friday and Saturday night and how many people drink and smoke.

"I guarantee the number will be more shocking than the number of obese and fat people.

"People love to use fat people as a target and say that it is their fault, it isn't.

"They are just sucked into the advertising campaigns for McDonalds and KFC and all the rest. They feel down so they eat and comfort themselves.

He added that: "People have different ways of coping with life. People are stuck at the point where they are still eating and don't realise what an issue it is."

Food addiction was first described in 1956 at a time busy families wanted to eat in front of their new televisions.

Seven decades later obesity is costing the NHS £58 billion a year.
