A spin-off of Transformers included a gender neutral character in one of its most recent episodes

A children’s TV show has sparked outrage after it introduced a new non-binary character.

Transformers: Earthspark, a spin-off show based on Hasbro’s action figures, included a robot named Nightshade.

Nightshade revealed the character's pronouns are they and them.

The robot also discussed with a human character what non-binary means.

Nightshade said: “I always knew my pronouns felt right, but what a wonderful word for a wonderful experience.”

The inclusion of a non-binary character appeared to divide opinion, particularly on social media.

Conservative commentators criticised the storyline in Transformers: Earthspark.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham accused the show of shoving pronouns down the throat of seven-year-olds.

Former colleague Megyn Kelly labelled the clip as “disgusting”.

However, other social media users appeared to question why many were left so outraged.

Twitter user Timothy Jacobsen said: “What’s the issue? Great message for kids about inclusion and acceptance.”

Another user said: “Transformers: Earthspark is an absolutely wonderful show.
