The legendary singer will be back on screens like never before

Sir Tom Jones, 84, has left his fans rather excited to learn they'll have the chance to learn more about their favourite singer than ever before.

Ever since he burst into the charts in the 1960s, Sir Tom has been delighting fans with his energetic stage performances and toe-tapping hits that have earned him a vast global fanbase.

However, Sir Tom has rarely let the cameras into his personal life, although he has been candid in the past about dealing with the death of his wife of almost six decades, Melinda Trenchard.

That's about to change thanks to Sir Tom's participation in a brand new series that promises to "bring audiences closer than ever before to the careers and life stories of some of the country’s leading cultural figures".

According to the corporation, the series is "made up of intimate first-person testimony and archive" in order to "showcase great arts stories combined with real psychological revelation".

Sharing his excitement over the new project, Sir Tom said in a statement: "Taking the time to look back at some of the extraordinary things that have happened in my life for In My Own Words has been really enjoyable and thought-provoking.

"Some of the archive I’d not seen before, and watching snippets of those past times, places, styles, and struggles brought home how lucky I am.

"Being able to spend the day in the first house I ever owned brought back so many memories… I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as I did making it!"

The BBC and Sir Tom shared the announcement of his involvement in the show on social media, and needless to say, his fans relished the opportunity to learn more about the Delilah hitmaker.

"We always imagine there's something special and extraordinary behind every great, every legend. SIR TOM JONES, the world's greatest voice/artist, will say it in his own words," one fan typed. "A great, among the world's greatest legends."

A second echoed: "Can’t wait to see this!! I’m sure seeing it all makes the memories just come flooding back to how far you have come in life and how blessed you are."

"Look forward to watching this Tom," a third weighed in before a fourth commented: "We all have our happy memories Thomas, it’s great to have them." (sic)

Meanwhile, Mark Bell, Commissioning Editor for BBC Arts, said of the new series: “I’m delighted that we are coming back with a second series of a strand that has firmly established itself, celebrating some of the country’s greatest cultural figures.

"In My Own Words shows us the myriad paths that the creative life can follow – from a farming childhood to conceptual art, cold war journalism to blockbuster thriller writing, the Welsh Valleys to superstardom – and the remarkable combination of talent and tenacity that goes into making art."

The announcement comes as the 84-year-old continues to wow crowds in the United States on the latest leg of his tour.

Putting to bed retirement fears that arose in 2024, Sir Tom shows no signs of slowing down, and recently took to Instagram to express his joy at how the tour is going.

"We are having a ball on tour & I really enjoy seeing the fun you are having at the shows," he commented alongside a series of snaps from the US leg.

Sir Tom will round out the US leg of the tour on Friday, May 23, at Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa, Rancho Mirage, California, before heading back to the UK.

He'll then perform at Hampton Court Palace on Friday, June 13, before jetting to Germany.

Greece, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Spain dates all lie ahead before he rounds off the tour in Cardiff on Thursday, August 21.
