The former Love Island star made her Strictly debut with pro partner Graziano di Prima on Saturday

Documentary maker and former Love Islander Zara McDermott faces a gruelling road to recovery after showing off an injury sustained from her time on Strictly.

The 26-year-old performed the Cha Cha this past weekend and she and 29-year-old Graziano di Prima face the daunting prospect of the Quickstep this coming Saturday.

As is typical for Strictly contestants, McDermott and di Prima have been putting the hours in at the rehearsal studio in order to finetune their routines.

But it appears the training has begun to take its toll on McDermott who took to Instagram to reveal all.

McDermott shared a clip of her foot, showing off the injury she's sustained to her big toe.

"I put this on my close friends but I think the world needs to see it," she wrote on the clip before she could be heard explaining the situation off-camera.

McDermott said to her Instagram followers: "I just have to let you all know that half my toe has come off… that’s half my toe!"

The TV presenter will be hoping she'll be able to patch up her ailment and return to the dancefloor with a bang on Saturday night following a relatively underwhelming debut.

This isn't the first time a Strictly star has sparked concern about their well-being already this series.

Shirley Ballas was left bedbound with a mystery illness last week which threatened to rule her out of the first show while 79-year-old Angela Rippon admitted her legs felt like they were going to "collapse" due to her training schedule.

Luckily, both stars managed to make it to the Strictly live show this past Saturday - including Rippon who left everyone aghast by pulling off a show-stopping split.

Week two ramps things up a gear once more as it marks the first time a celebrity will be booted off the show.

Only Les Dennis and Nikita Kanda finished below McDermott on the leaderboard after week one after all 15 celebs performed for judges Craig Revel Horwood, Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Anton du Beke.

The scores from the past weekend will be added to the celebrities' week two scores before each star faces a nervous wait as the public have their say.

McDermott's disappointing first time out still isn't enough for bookmakers to think she's in danger of an early exit, however.

In fact, following the week one routines, it's a two-horse race between Dennis and Kanda according to the bookies to be sent home first.

Both are priced at 6/4 to be sent packing with Unibet, Bet UK, and Bet MGM while William Hill has Kanda down as an outright 7/4 favourite to be eliminated.

The same can't be said for EastEnders' Bobby Brazier who has emerged as a frontrunner to lift the Glitterball Trophy following his debut with Dianne Buswell.

Nigel Harman, Angela Scanlon, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams all also remain in the running to be crowned this year's champion.
