Police release statement on Sinead O'Connor's death as star pronounced 'dead at the scene'

The award-winning singer died at the age of 56, her family announced on Wednesday

Sinead O'Connor was pronounced "dead at the scene" at her London residence, the police have confirmed.
The Met Police confirmed O'Connor's death is also not being treated as suspicious.
The statement from the police read: "Police were called at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area.
"Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
"A file will be prepared for the Coroner," the statement concluded.

O'Connor's family broke the news to the world on Wednesday evening with a brief statement of their own.
They said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead.
"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
O'Connor's death comes 18 months after her son Shane, 17, died by suicide in January 2022.
The singer was open about her struggles with grief and mental health issues in the year and a half after his death.
Tributes from far and wide have poured in for O'Connor from some of showbiz's most recognisable faces.
GB News' very own Eamonn Holmes recalled on air his final meeting with O'Connor after he branded her "beautiful both inside and out".
Elsewhere, Russell Crowe branded O'Connor a "hero" with a lengthy tribute of his own while Irish MMA star Conor McGregor also shared his condolences.

Ireland’s Taoiseach Leo Varadkar took to Twitter to say he too was “really sorry” to hear about O’Connor’s death.
He penned: “Her music was loved around the world and her talent was unmatched and beyond compare.
“Condolences to her family, her friends and all who loved her music. Ar dheis De go Raibh a hAnam.”
The outpouring of support, well wishes and tributes haven't sat well with fellow musician Morrissey, however.
The Smiths star has hit headlines in the wake of O'Connor's death after he issued a foul-mouthed rant slamming celebrities' reactions.
In one snippet from his website's post, he fumed: "You praise her now ONLY because it is too late.
"You hadn’t the guts to support her when she was alive and she was looking for you."
