Zack Norman has died at the age of 83 from "natural causes" at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, his son-in-law confirmed to Deadline.

Norman's staggering career came from his role in Romancing the Stone, 1990's Cadillac Man and TV series The Nanny from 1993-1995.


The 83-year-old has left behind his wife Nancy, sister Jane, daughters Lori and Tracy, sons Stephen and Michael and 14 grandchildren.

Before launching his acting career, Norman received an MBA from Harvard Business School before entering the world of entertainment.

He worked as a comedian in the early 1960s and performed at Playboy Clubs, the Flamingo and Copacabana with the Temptations.

Taking a different career path, Norman left for Europe in 1966 and worked on the US Army base circuit operating out of Frankfurt, Germany, playing army clubs throughout Western Europe.

He finally made his TV debut on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson on April 28, 1969, where his acting career really took off.

His role in Romancing the Stone saw his character Ira and his love for crocodiles, with "Look at those snappers!" being one of his most memorable lines.

During his career, he partnered with filmmaker Henry Jahlom on nine films including 1992's Venice/Venice, Festival in Cannes (2001), Hollywood Dreams (2006) and Ovation (2015).

He starred on three episodes of The Nanny and also guest starred in the two-part Judgement Day episodes of The A-Team in 1985.

Norman also appeared in a 1993 episode of Baywatch.

Fans of the actor were left devastated to hear the news of his death and took to their social media accounts to express their condolences.

One noted: "That was a Great movie. R.I.P. Zack Norman."

"Man, 83 is a solid run - RIP to Zack Norman, his role in Romancing The Stone was iconic," another added.
