Rock Legend Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76

Heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, just weeks after reuniting with his Black Sabbath bandmates.

The rockstar appeared alongside his bandmates at Villa Park in Birmingham earlier in the month, performing a farewell concert for fans, alongside some of his favourite bands.

In a statement, Osbourne's family said: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.

"He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time."

The statement is signed by his wife, Sharon, and children, Aimee, Kelly, Jack and Louis.

Less than three weeks ago, the singer performed from a throne on stage at the home of his beloved football club Aston Villa.

During the concert, Osbourne told fans: "You've no idea how I feel - thank you from the bottom of my heart."

It was a gig put together with performances from some of his favourite acts, including Guns'n'Roses and Metallica, for the 76-year-old's "final bow".

Osbourne was a globally acclaimed music legend who rose to prominence as the founding member and lead singer of the band Black Sabbath in 1968.

The band pioneered the heavy metal genre, producing iconic tracks such as Paranoid, Iron Man and Heaven & Hell.

English songwriting icon Sir Elton John shared a touching tribute to the singer on Instagram: "So sad to hear the news of @ozzyosbourne passing away.

"He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods - a true legend.

"He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met. I will miss him dearly.

"To Sharon and the Family, I send my condolences and love."

Sir Rod Stewart also posted a heartfelt post to his Instagram, saying: "Bye, Bye Ozzy.

"Sleep well, my friend. I'll see you up there - later rather than sooner." Signing off Sir Rod Stewart.

David Coverdale, the lead singer of the rock band Whitesnake, took to X to pay his respects to the rock legend.

"My Sincere Condolences To Sharon, The Family, Friends & Fans," he wrote.

Meanwhile, X Factor duo Jedward said: "Rip Ozzy Osbourne sending love to Sharon and Kelly and Jack and the whole family ".

Tributes from adorning fans have also poured in after the news broke. One fan penned: "A rockstar. A legend. A British icon. Rest in Power, Ozzy Osbourne."

Another wrote: "Rest in Peace Ozzy Osbourne! We wouldn't have Heavy Metal without you."

"I still can't believe it. A few weeks ago he was giving his final concert. I hope you came home, Ozzy," a user emotionally wrote, while another added: "This one really hurts. RIP Ozzy."

Osbourne left Black Sabbath in 1979 due to rising tensions with his bandmates and embarked on a solo music career, releasing more than a dozen albums.

His debut single, released in 1980, Crazy Train, is one of his most famous songs to date. He sold over 100 million records during his 40-year career.

Osbourne was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame and the US Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame twice, once for Black Sabbath, and once as a solo artist.

He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, as well as five Grammy wins from 12 nominations.

However, Osbourne's health woes worsened in recent years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

He also suffered from other health problems, including complications sustained from a fall in 2019.

After being forced to cancel tour shows due to poor health, he made a one-off appearance in Birmingham to close the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
