Jean Boht has died at the age of 91, her family has confirmed in a statement.
The actor was best known for starring in the BBC's Bread but also boasted credits in the soap Doctors, Holby City and Casualty.
A statement from Boht's family read: "It is with overwhelming sadness that we must announce that Jean Boht passed away yesterday, Tuesday, September 12.
"Jean had been battling vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease with the indefatigable spirit for which she was both beloved and renowned.
“She was a resident at Denville Hall, the home for members of the theatrical profession.”

Boht was married to composer Carl Davies who died earlier this year.
The pair tied the knot in 1970 and shared two daughters together.
Tributes have flooded in from far and wide for the legendary actor, with many fans heartbroken by the news.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned:"Awful sad news Jean Boht has passed away awesome legend. Thoughts are with her family and friends and many fans. The pride of scouseland."
While a second remembered her fondly for her Bread role: "R.I.P Jean Boht aka forever as Nellie Boswell."
Elsewhere, another weighed in: "So sorry to hear of the passing of Jean Boht, a superb actress and forever in my mind Nellie Boswell R.I.P."
And a fourth echoed: "R.I.P Jean Boht . Known forMrs Boswell in the sitcom bread Will be sadly missed…." (sic)

Penning their tribute, the fifth Twitter user commented: "RIP Jean Boht who will be forever remembered for playing matriarch Ma Boswell in Bread.
