Lee Mack returned for another episode of the ITV quiz show on Saturday night but it ended with a tribute to a former contestant

The 1% Club viewers were left heartbroken on Saturday night after a message at the end of the credits paid tribute to a former contestant - Steven Wong - who had recently died.

During the recent episode, Wong shared a story about nearly becoming a Hollywood star and almost being cast in the hit 1984 film Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom alongside Harrison Ford.

Touching on how his parents had taken him for an audition as a child, Wong explained: "I didn’t realise this but apparently, we got down to the final two and it was me and another kid.

"Don’t forget, this was only when I was about 10!" Wong added before he revealed he missed out on the role which eventually went to Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan.

Stunned, Mack expressed: "Wow! And you got down to the final two! You say you don't like to talk about it, you brought it up on national television."

Wong managed to get to the 50 percent question before he used his pass, then was eliminated from the competition during the latter stages - leaving Daniel and Mitul making it to the one percent question.

After Mitul walked away with £99,000, viewers were given the sad news that Wong had died after filming as it paid a tribute with a title card that read: "In memory of Steven Wong. 1972-2024."

Stunned at the news, many viewers took to their social media accounts to share their condolences, with one posting on X: "Very sad to hear about Steven Wong. Thoughts are with his family."

"RIP Steven Wong," a second added before a third penned: "No! Cannot believe that! RIP kind sir!"

Another noted: "He should have continued his path of acting! Reckon he would have been a big star!" (sic)

The recent episode came without any complaints, unlike the last episode where many viewers claimed they spotted a glaring error when it came to one of the answers to a question.

Last week, the 30 percent question left viewers riled up as many admitted they found an alternative answer to the one that was shown on screen.

The question read: "Amrit and his grandad share the same birthday. Their birthday balloons arrive muddled up. Amrit's grandad is three times older than him. How old is Amrit?"

Four gold balloons were displayed beneath the question shaped in the numbers six, eight, seven and two.

Mack revealed that the answer was 26 years old, making his grandfather 78, however, eagle-eyed fans thought the answer could have also been 29.

One user took to the show's official Instagram page and commented: "My other half is adamant that his answer of 29 is also right. There's no string on those balloons, therefore you could turn the 6 upside down.

"3x29=87 What do you reckon? Was he still in, or was he out of the game?" (sic)
