"She’s been badly damaged by the revelations of the past 72 hours.

"But she can still recover and have a bright future if she makes the right decisions.

"And friends are telling Holly the right thing to do is take some time out, step back and to return to TV on a different show.

"She’s achieved huge success on This Morning. She’s built a brand - but that brand has been hugely damaged by Phillip and many people who really care for Holly are telling her she now needs to move on and create a new brand on her own."

Those close to Holly say she feels a "huge loyalty" to those working on the show saying she won't cut and run.

The source added: "Holly is incredibly proud of This Morning and all the programme has achieved so she has a huge loyalty and emotional attachment to it.

"It's created a real tug of love and no one knows how that will play out."

Holly is due to return to ITV next week after half-term.
