The TV cook had been battling cancer

Dave Myers, best known as one half of the Hairy Bikers, has died at the age of 66.

His co-star and close pal Si King confirmed the news in a statement shared on social media.

King penned via the Hairy Bikers X account: "Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news.

"Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.

"Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.

"All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

"Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment.

"My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.

"I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”

King then concluded the post as he penned: "May I ask you all for one further kindness and allow Lili, his wife, his family, close friends and I some time and some peace to process our huge loss. I am sure I will see you all soon. Love Si x."

Before long, fans from far and wide flooded social media with tributes of their own for the popular TV cook.

One X user reacted to the statement: "Very sad news that Dave Myers one half of the Hairy Bikers cookery show has passed away. I enjoy the cookery tv shows and the Hairy Bikers was one of my favourites.

"And Dave was a funny man as well as a great chef along with his partner Si King deepest sympathy to his family & Si."

A second echoed: "So saddened to hear Hairy Bikers' Dave Myers has died, after his battle with cancer. What an absolutely lovely guy he was - so full of fun, with a cheeky smile. We had many of his recipes in our home too. A truly beautiful soul. RIP."

Meanwhile, a third shared: "Absolutely gutted to hear this. The hairy bikers are an institution, Dave was such a positive and happy face, just helped to lift your mood. RIP Dave."

And a fourth concurred: "Tragic news, I love the @HairyBikers and this is a sad loss. My thoughts are with all Dave’s friends and family but mainly with Si King who I’m guessing is devastated. RIP Dave and thanks for the laughs and recipes." (sic)

Myers was diagnosed with cancer two years ago but he made the decision not to go public with what kind of cancer it was.

He recently returned to screens in The Hairy Bikers Go West where he admitted to King it was a "dream" to be back on his motorbike after fearing the illness would've made it impossible previously.
