Former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actress Gemma Atkinson has revealed her two-year-old son Thiago was rushed to hospital by ambulance on Saturday night in what she described as a "scary" incident.
The 40-year-old television star, who shares Thiago and six-year-old daughter Mia with Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez, took to social media on Wednesday to share details of the traumatic weekend.
Writing on Instagram alongside a video of herself exercising in her home gym, Atkinson disclosed that the unexpected hospital dash occurred just hours before both children's christening ceremony on Sunday.
The actress did not reveal the specific reason for the emergency, but confirmed her son is now "absolutely fine" following what she called "a scary few hours" for the family.
The family spent hours at Bolton hospital's children's A&E department, not leaving until 1am on Sunday morning.
Despite the late night emergency, Atkinson revealed they "still somehow rocked up to church at 9.30am" for the planned christening service.
"We were there until 1am Sunday morning and still somehow rocked up to church at 9.30. We were exhausted but we had the best day," the actress shared in her Instagram post.
The hospital visit came during what was already an exceptionally busy weekend for the family. Atkinson had organised a family birthday tea for Mia on Friday, followed by a party for her school friends on Saturday, before the joint christening for both children on Sunday.

In her social media statement, Atkinson expressed gratitude to the medical staff who cared for her son. "He's absolutely fine! But it was a scary few hours and I wanted to say a massive thank you to Bolton hospital children's A&E department, and also the lovely paramedics who took us up there. God bless our NHS!" she wrote.
The actress shared that following the stressful weekend, she began feeling unwell on Sunday evening. "On Sunday evening when we were home after all the chaos and fun of weekend my throat started to get sore which I knew was my body communicating with me. 'You're getting run down'," she explained.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Atkinson detailed how she managed her health, mentioning remedies including "lemon and local honey" and "a bath in magnesium salts" before taking an early night.
Fans quickly rallied around the actress following her announcement, with many expressing relief about Thiago's recovery.
