The fitness enthusiast received nasty feedback over an old photo

Gemma Atkinson has responded to cruel body-shaming comments she’s received after she shared snaps of herself in a bikini.

The former soap star frequently shares her passion for fitness, uploading pictures and videos of her workouts, but has received a string of ill-willed criticism.

Some have left nasty comments saying her body now looks “too manly” after she showed her toned stomach on the beach.

The mother-of-two, who is engaged to Spanish Strictly Come Dancing favourite Gorka Marquez, has hit back at fans who blasted her holiday snap.

Sharing to her Instagram stories a clearly-edited version of the picture, which had exaggerated her arm and tummy muscles, she wrote: “Ffs. Who did this? Apparently, Evil Steve [her fitness trainer] works miracles.”

Sharing in the next slide the unaltered photo, she added: “To clarify. This is the original. Before I had children and before I had my tattoo removed. But thanks to those who messaged to tell me that I’d 'gone too far' and looked 'too manly'."

In a video posted soon after, she addressed the backlash again, sharing one of the negative remarks.

The former Emmerdale actor laughed as she explained: "I’m howling because I’m still getting DMs regarding that first picture saying, ‘Please stop, you’ve gone too far.’

"It’s not f***ing real! Look at the picture! Do you really think that’s a real picture? Someone’s edited it clearly!

"That’s not a real picture I mean come on - please, just look at the picture first and think, ‘Is this real?’ Even if it was real, sending stuff like that is rude and weird!"

The fitness enthusiast frequently shares her gruelling workouts with her 1.9 million followers, often inspiring others in their exercise regimes.

Earlier this week, she shared a motivating quote which read: “You’ve always been beautiful. Now you’re just deciding to be healthier, fitter, faster and stronger. Remember that.”

“I love this. Training isn’t just about the weight you lose. It’s about the life you gain,” she captioned the social media post.

Unfortunately, Tuesday’s remarks aren’t the first negative comments she’s faced about her lifestyle choices.

Last year, a then-pregnant Atkinson shared her pregnancy-friendly workout, writing: “Glute focused today with bands only.

“Strong glutes in pregnancy helps with lower back pain and helps support the pelvis so I’m all for it! Anything to help keep this little fella supported."

However, it didn’t take too long for opinionated fans to provide their unsolicited advice, with many urging her not to exercise while pregnant - despite NHS guidance confirming it’s safe for expecting mothers to do so.

Soon after the birth of her son, Thiago, she received more criticism after sharing a sweet snap.

The 39-year-old, who also shares older daughter Mia with dancer Marquez, hit back as fans warned her not to allow the newborn to lie on his front.

Responding, Atkinson penned: "He does sleep on his back. He naps on his front a few times throughout the day when I’m sat on the chair next to him.

"He’s also able to lift and move his head in both directions when on his front. Not my first rodeo with babies.”

Others rushed to her defence, assuring the radio presenter that she’s a “good mum”.
